What We Wear Becomes Us

Today I went to one of those stores where you buy jewelry making supplies, and when I finished my purchase, I was completely captivated by one of the young women at the register. She was adorned with at least ten, maybe more, different bracelets, and she barely had enough fingers for all the rings she was wearing! I didn’t notice whether she had earrings or necklaces; her long hair and the store uniform probably hid them. But I’m sure she was wearing it all, and I immediately thought… this is my ideal client.
Later, I started reflecting on how in this world there’s room for everyone. There are people like me who enjoy being fully adorned, and others who feel perfectly complete with just a pair of small earrings and a delicate chain. And the truth is, either way is beautiful. It’s what makes us ourselves. The way we dress and the accessories we choose help define us, they tell a quiet story about who we are.
It also reminded me of my mother, who was always impeccably put together. She would never step out of the house without her earrings, and she always wore her rings and necklaces. For her, adorning herself was part of her daily routine, a ritual of self-respect and joy, and it remained that way until almost her very last day.
I believe jewelry is much more than decoration. It’s identity, memory, expression, and sometimes even legacy. Whether we wear a little or a lot, each piece we choose carries meaning, and in its own way, it celebrates who we are.
