The Hobbyist Phase Comes to an End

Moving away from high-volume, quick-turnaround work to "slow jewelry" is a huge leap of faith, but it’s where the soul of the work really starts to shine. I’ve come to realize that the era of making simple, thirty-minute jewelry is behind me. I now find it far more rewarding to pour myself into elaborate, one-of-a-kind designs. There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a piece finds the person who falls in love with it at first sight, it’s an immediate, undeniable connection that leads to a sale.

The challenge I face now is deciding who I am designing for. Should I be hunting for a specific 'ideal' customer, or should I simply trust my instincts and let my hands lead the way? I’ve decided the answer is to stop chasing pre-established trends and stop trying to impress the masses. Instead, I am going to let my hands do the magic and simply go with the flow.

By releasing the pressure to conform to what 'should' sell, I’m opening up the space for what must be created. I’m trading the clock for the craft, choosing depth over speed. I know that if I stay true to my own creative pulse, the right person won’t just find my work, they will recognize it as something that was meant for them all along.
