Sterling silver or silver plated?

Lately, I’ve been exploring the idea of working more with sterling silver instead of silver-plated materials. I’ve already created a few pieces in real 925 silver, and honestly… they feel different. More solid, more lasting, more “forever”, and they look really beautiful.
Since the beginning, I’ve been concerned about the durability of my pieces, and I’ve always tried to use materials that won’t tarnish. But there’s no doubt that even 925 silver-plated wires are made of copper underneath, and over time, they will eventually deteriorate.
Of course, deciding to create all pieces in sterling silver comes with a trade-off.
On one side, sterling silver means better durability, higher quality, and pieces that age beautifully over time. There’s no hidden copper core and no gradual wear revealing a different metal underneath. It’s something you can truly keep for years. Additionally, these pieces bring a sense of value and quality with a more “fine jewelry = status” feel.
On the other side, it also means higher prices, and that makes me pause. I’ve always wanted my pieces to be accessible, something you can fall in love with, without overthinking the cost.
This weekend I showcased my pieces in one of the local markets in my neighborhood, and I took 3 pieces that I made in sterling silver. I priced them very well, almost at my cost, as I know a market is not the best place to sell expensive things, and of the three I took, I sold one of them. Lucky shot or good choice, I don’t know.
What do you think? I would truly love to hear from you…
