I believe every artist is searching for something. We want to express ourselves through the pieces we create, and sometimes we can’t find exactly the right piece to say what we need to say to the world. Other times, we want our audience to connect with what we have created, and that is where the challenge begins.
Talking with my AI, “she” has often told me that I need to find my niche, the place where I feel comfortable, fulfilled, and truly connected with the jewelry I make. Yet there are other moments when I choose to create pieces that appeal to certain groups or trends, and that is when the AI tells me I may be pushing my artistic boundaries, making fashion pieces instead of art.
But in my defense, I genuinely enjoy creating them. I see them as more approachable, more playful, and perhaps easier for people to connect with. There is something beautiful about making pieces that can simply make someone smile or feel represented.
This weekend I presented a collection called “Nautical Narratives,” colorful marine-inspired charms placed over clear mist sea glass. These pieces probably belong more in the category of popular jewelry than artistic statement creations, yet I like them very much. I can imagine a younger audience being drawn to them, or anyone who carries a love for the sea, travel, and carefree summer memories.
And perhaps that is part of being an artist too, accepting that creativity does not always have to live at the deepest end of meaning. Sometimes art whispers, sometimes it celebrates, and sometimes it simply plays. Maybe the balance between personal expression and creating something others can joyfully wear is where my work is slowly finding its own voice.
